Who we are
ScholarSpark is a practice app for the NSW Opportunity Class and Selective High School tests. We write practice questions and practice papers, and we explain the answers.
The app is run by the ScholarSpark team. You can reach us through the Contact us link in Settings, and we answer from a person rather than a robot.
We are not connected with the NSW Department of Education, and nothing here is official test material. The real tests are theirs; our questions are our own work, written to be like them.
Who the account belongs to
The account belongs to a parent or guardian, not to the child. You need to be an adult to create one, and by creating one you are saying you are the parent or guardian of the child who will use it.
One account is for one child. If you have two children preparing, you need two accounts so that their work is kept apart.
Only one device can be signed in to an account at a time. Signing in somewhere new signs the other one out. This is deliberate — it keeps one purchase to one family.
What we give you, and what we do not promise
We give you practice: questions, papers, and explanations of the answers. We keep writing more of both while your access runs.
We do not promise your child a place in an Opportunity Class or a Selective school. Nobody can. Practice helps; it is not a result, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
Parts of the app say "under construction". That means what it says — we have not built it yet, and we are not promising a date. What you can use is what you can see.
Keeping your account safe
Keep your password to yourself. Anything done on your account we will treat as done by you, because we have no way to tell otherwise.
If you think somebody else has got into your account, change your password and tell us.
What things cost
Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. What you pay is what is shown on the Plans screen at the time you pay.
Full lessons cost $399 and last 365 days from the day you pay. A paper pack costs $50 for 5 papers and lasts 365 days.
Nothing renews itself. When your 365 days are up, access stops and we ask you whether you want another year. We will never charge you again without you choosing to pay.
Payment is handled by Stripe on their own secure page. We never see or hold your card number. The charge shows on your statement as SCHOLARSPARK.
Refunds
There are two different situations and we treat them differently.
If something is wrong — questions are broken, the content does not arrive, access does not work, or it is not what we described — you get your money back. Not credit, and not at our discretion. This is your right under the Australian Consumer Law and nothing on this page takes it away.
If you simply change your mind, we will refund you within 7 days of paying, as long as your child has answered fewer than 20 questions since the payment. After either of those, a change of mind is not refundable. This window is us being reasonable rather than us being obliged, which is why it has limits.
Ask for a refund in writing through Contact us, and tell us why. We refund to the card you paid with.
Our questions and explanations are ours
Everything we write — the questions, the papers, the explanations, the pictures — belongs to us and is protected by copyright. Your access is for your own child’s learning and nothing else. You may work through it together and print it for your child.
You may not copy it into another product, sell it, publish it, share your sign-in with other families, or use it to train a machine-learning model. Those are the things that take the value of the work away from us, and they are not allowed.
You may not collect it with a program, script or browser add-on, record or photograph it to pass on, or copy or share it in any other way we have not agreed to. Every question screen carries a small code that belongs to your account, so a copy can be traced to the account it came from.
Using the app fairly
Do not try to break into the app, take it apart, get at other families’ accounts, or collect our content automatically.
If an account is used to copy or collect our content, we may suspend or close it straight away, without refunding what is left of its access, and we may take further action to protect our work. For anything else on this page, where we can, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to explain.
Your child’s information
We hold very little: a nickname, a school year, and the questions your child has answered. We do not ask for their real name, their school, or any photographs. If you choose to send us a school (in a review) or pictures (with a message to Contact us), we keep them only for that purpose. We do not sell anything about your child, and we do not share it.
The full list, in plain English, is on the page we link to from the sign-up screen.
When things go wrong
We try to keep the app working and the questions correct, but we cannot promise it will never be down and we cannot promise every question is perfect. When we find a mistake we fix it, and if you find one, telling us is the fastest way it gets fixed.
Except for the rights the Australian Consumer Law gives you, which we cannot and do not exclude, we are not responsible for indirect losses — a missed test, a lost opportunity, or anything of that kind. Where we are responsible for something, what we owe is limited to what you paid us.
Ending it
You can stop using ScholarSpark whenever you like, and you can ask us to close your account. Closing it removes what we hold about your child.
We may close an account that is being used against these terms. If we close an account for a reason that is not the family’s fault, we refund the unused part of what they paid.
If we change these terms
We may change these terms. If a change matters to you — the price, what you get, or your rights here — we will tell you by email before it takes effect, and it will not apply to access you have already paid for.
The date at the top of this page is when it last changed.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and any dispute belongs in the courts of New South Wales.
